Dr. Shannon Pope and Dr. Tom Pope, a husband-and-wife team, are both double-board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and have experience and expertise in family-centered care for patients of all ages -- from birth to childhood to adulthood to advanced ages.

Prior to relocating to Smithfield, Shannon and Tom practiced Internal Medicine & Pediatrics in Williamsburg, Virginia for two years. They decided to return home to start their own medical practice, raise their children, be closer to their families and long-time friends in the area and most importantly, provide the highest possible caliber of care to their community.

Dr. Shannon Pope was raised in Smithfield and graduated Valedictorian from Smithfield High School in 1990. She attended the College of William & Mary and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Biology in 1994. She then attended Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, and in 1998, she was selected as a member of AOA, the Medical Honor Society. She completed her internship and residency in 2002 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, and is Board Certified in Internal Medical & Pediatrics.

Dr. Tom Pope was raised in Petersburg and graduated from Tidewater Academy in Wakefield 1988. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Chemistry in 1992. He then attended Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, where in 1998, he was selected as a member of AOA, the Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency in 2002 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, and is Board Certified in Internal Medical & Pediatrics.

Donna C. Smith, MS, FNP-BC, CDE

Donna Smith

Donna was raised in both Isle of Wight County and Suffolk, and lives in Smithfield with her husband. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2007 and her Masters of Science in Family Health in 2011 from State University of New York Polytechnic Institute where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She is a certified Nurse Practitioner and Diabetes Educator and has a special interest in the treatment of obesity. Prior to joining Family Medical Care of Smithfield, she worked as a Diabetes Educator, with Endocrinology/Metabolism patients, and as a Primary Care Provider/Internal Medicine and Urology Nurse Practitioner.

Michael G. Stevenson, PA-C

Michael Stevenson

Mike lives in Chesapeake with his wife and three children. He recieved his Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech in 1996. He graduated from the Physician Assistant Program at Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2012. He is nationally certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), and has been practicing in Hampton Roads since 2012. Mike is a former Youth Minister at Virginia Tech. Prior to joining Shannon & Tom, Mike worked as a Pediatric Dermatology Physician Assistant at CHKD in Norfolk. Mike's special medical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of conditions related to the skin.
